Applications

Every application is unique, and our lighting experts will gladly provide you with a detailed, custom light plan based on your crops, location, facility, utility incentives, budget, and other factors. General approaches include:

Greenhouse Propagation

Young plants typically require 8+ mol/m2/day DLI for good growth, and a DLI around 14 for more optimized growth. Many greenhouses require approx. 3-10 mol/m2/day of supplemental light as a result. HI-Top 320s on 12’ centers provide 3-4 DLI, and HI-Top 620s provide 6-8 DLI on 12’ centers, 7-10’ above the crops are the most common setups.

Greenhouse Produce

Appropriate supplemental light levels vary significantly by crop and grow style. Ultimately greens and herbs may be lit with 100-150 square feet overage per HI-Top for +4-10 DLI to achieve total DLI levels of 10-17 after sunlight. Strawberries are best with similar or higher levels, e.g. 100 square feet per HI-Top 620. Vining/fruiting crops like tomatoes are best 25-35 total DLI supported by 50-100 square feet per HI-Top 620.

Greenhouse Cannabis

High-yielding cannabis strains in an optimized environment can utilize a DLI up to 60 well, and any flower setup should stay above a DLI of 20 mol/m2/day minimum for success. Depending on goals, incentives, and growth style, 30-50 square feet per HI-Top 620 to add 15-25 to the DLI is generally ideal. Veg and mother areas at half of this concentration are appropriate.

Indoor Cannabis

Single-tier grow rooms easily achieve optimum lighting with HI-Top 620s covering 12-25 square feet per light for 750-1500 µmol/m2/s PPFDs. High-yielding strains in an optimized environment should be grown with 12-16 square feet per light, at least 2 feet above the crop.
